Bloomington Press Club meets at noon on the fourth Monday, January through November. Meetings are currently held via Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but during normal times we meet the Indiana Memorial Union’s Coronation Room, adjacent to the Tudor Room. Members and guests are welcome.
The club invites guest speakers to address media-related topics. Past guests have included IU newsmakers such as basketball coach Tom Crean, athletic director Fred Glass and baseball coach Tracy Smith; public officials such as Sheriff Jim Kennedy, city public works director Susie Johnson, MCCSC superintendent Judy DeMuth and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz; nationally known media figures such as author Gay Talese and CBS correspondent Byron Pitts; and IU professors such as David H. Weaver, whose research project has looked at more than 20 years of journalists opinions and behaviors, and Margie Hershey, who analyzes voting patterns and other election issues.
Take a student to lunch: [NOTE: This applies to when the club meets in person.]
The club welcomes IU students and supports their efforts by paying for their lunches at press club meetings. All you have to do is pay for one extra lunch at any time, and the treasurer will credit our student lunch account.
